Blackberry Muffins with Lemon Buttermilk Glaze

1. In a large bowl, whisk together until smooth the sugar, butter, eggs, and 2 t. lemon zest, baking powder, baking soda, buttermilk, 2 t vanilla, and salt. Gently fold in flour and halved blackberries (batter will be thick).
2. Spoon batter into 12 prepared muffin cups and bake in preheated 400 degree oven until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, about 18 minutes. Let cool in pan 5 minutes; transfer to wire rack and cool 30 minutes.
3. Stir together until smooth the powdered sugar, 1 T buttermilk, 1 t lemon zest, 1/2 t vanilla, and a pinch of salt. Drizzle over cooled muffins, sprinkle with additional lemon zest if desired.
