Last summer, two of our grandkids, Evie and Ben (cousins), came to spend a week on the farm. For Ben, the highlight was shooting rabbits, something he doesn’t get to do in the city. Rabbits are a problem for us-last summer, they ate a whole hoop house full of cucumber transplants while we weren’t paying attention. So Ben got to be a farm hero by defending the farm against depredation by shooting 8 rabbits.
Evie, on the other hand, was not enthusiastic about her cousin’s hunting expeditions. She mourned the first rabbit Ben shot and made this apple arrangement as a memorial, which I think is really something. I call it” Requiem for a Rabbit. ” We have an enlargement of it to be hung in the Depot.
